Oxford Psychiatrist Dr Andrew Iles flagrant disregard for patient confidentiality

Updated: Dec 9, 2020

Please note that as of December 2020 the ICO condemned Iles for his lack of privacy policy, his lack of gaining consent and his not being open and honest about his data sharing.

So in 4 short weeks of being his patient Dr Iles breached my patient confidentiality several times. He had no regard for it and no conscience basically telling me I was crazy for even complaining. There was no privacy policy in June 2019 and no consent forms. He was also underhanded cc: people in one one copy but not the other and bcc: my medical records to a hospital's database without my knowledge.

He stated he had a solicitor write up a privacy policy for him after he discharged me behind my back due to my GDPR complaints but this simply asked for all power to be given to him to communicate what he liked with anyone he liked. It was not lawful as it had consent as a pre-requisition for a service and no opt out allowed. After the ICO got involved he has had to re-write this privacy policy again this month as his first one, supposedly written by a solicitor for him was totally not legally correct!

Last year he used gaslighting to make out to my doctors that my complaints about GDPR breaches and the upset it caused me was basically totally unfounded! He told my husband he just assumed I'd understand he could breach my confidentiality multiple times. Several months on the ICO are still trying to get him to do the right thing and have said they've spent weeks waiting for him to even reply, he's still refusing what he should be doing, full subject access requests and rectification of inaccurate data etc. He rang a confidential patient helpline to ask them if I'd called and presumably in order to get the data he wanted told them (recorded by the call handler on my medical record) that I'd 'made excessive calls to him'!!! I never rang Iles once!!!!! Total blatant lie.

Further, his defence union made me a 'without prejudice' out of court offer of £ for these multiple breaches of giving my medical records to anyone he felt like and for giving my contact details to someone without consent also. Surrey and Borders NHS Trust where he works also gave me £ for the email he sent for his private practice using their NHS system plonking my name and DOB as the title and a whole load of sensitive data in the body of the email which is prohibited by the NHS.

And for merely complaining about all this last year I was punished by a doctor now under GMC investigation for basically dreaming the whole thing up and discharged for it to boot!

Don't be fooled by his new found confidential service he offers and whatever you do don't complain about it when he breaches it as you'll get discharged behind your back with him telling your doctors you are an insane mere attention seeker!
